Topics Covered

1. Getting into Retailers and Distributors

We'll cover the advantages and disadvantages of selling your product through retailers and distributors. You'll learn what retailers are looking for, who to contact, and how to prepare and submit a presentation package.

2. How Your Customer Thinks and Buys

Your potential customers would rather buy than be "sold." This seminar will take you inside your customer's head to learn the psychological process of buying. You'll discover the "who, how, and when" of buying, and how to capitalize on the process.

3. Market Planning

Market Planning involves the complete thinking through of product marketing details from the customer's perspective. This is a key step to taking your invention and turning it into a sought-after product. We'll cover the important concept of positioning, price setting, and marketing communications strategies.

4. Branding and Themes

Branding is an important marketing device to give your product a special identity. You'll learn how to create a brand and come up with clever product names. In addition, you'll create a theme to form the basis for your marketing communications.

5. Packaging

Packaging can be just as important as the product itself. Shoppers often make assumptions and purchase decisions based on the packaging. You'll discover the different types of packaging, the steps to create packaging, and attractive designs to make your product stand out from the crowd.

6. Product Development Planning

The first stage of development planning is to know your customer's needs and wants. We'll convert those needs and wants into product requirements using a structured process. Then, you'll learn how to work with designers to make your idea take shape. In addition, we'll uncover if there is a need to pass government regulations and acquire certifications. You'll discover the certification testing process and how organizations such as Underwriters Laboratories (UL) operate.

7. Production and Manufacturing

In the development stage we'll take your plans and bring them to life. You'll either use this information to build your product yourself, or gain the knowledge to effectively find and work with designers and manufacturers. We'll cover specifications, bill of materials, test cases, documentation, and production.

8. Product Launch, Publicity, and Advertising

We'll cover what is needed to finalize your product to make it ready for selling. We'll discuss how to create awareness with publicity, build trust with advertising, effectively use direct mail, and selling tactics.

9. Summary

Knowing all the above information is important and bringing it all together in an organized summary is essential. We'll review, answer questions, and outline the next steps for you to take.
